Year 10: Rights and freedoms in Australia
Description
Students complete a case study on the significance of one of the following civil rights events for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples:
- 1962 right to vote federally
- 1967 referendum
- Yirrkala Bark Petition
- Wave Hill strike
- Tent Embassy
- Mabo
- tabling of the Bringing Them Home Report (The Stolen Generations)
- reconciliation movement
- 2008 Apology to Australia's Indigenous Peoples.
They develop a script with references and deliver a spoken/signed presentation that:
- investigates the significance of the chosen civil rights event
- analyses and synthesises information from a range of primary and secondary sources
- plans and delivers a spoken presentation which incorporates historical arguments based upon referenced sources of evidence.
