Primary cognitive verb toolkit

The Primary cognitive verb toolkit aims to support the explicit teaching of thinking during the Primary phase of learning. The suite of resources provides school leaders and teachers with advice and guidance around each of the common cognitive verbs identified and associated thinking process.

The Primary cognitive verb toolkit: Teacher overview (PDF, 359.6 KB) introduces the three key resources for each verb.

This toolkit includes:

  • an information sheet about each cognitive verb and its location in the curriculum
  • phase-appropriate classroom posters
    • Prep to Year 2
    • Years 3 to 6
