Amendments have been made to the Economics General Senior Syllabus 2019.
Objectives
Syllabus objectives 1–5 and their explanatory paragraphs have been amended for clarity.
Unit objectives have been amended to align with the changes to syllabus objectives.
Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Examination — combination response
Assessment objectives 1, 3 and 4 have been amended to better describe the assessment requirements.
The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended to ensure consistency across the syllabus.
The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to better describe the evidence required.
Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Investigation — research report
Minor amendments to Assessment objectives 1–5 have been made to better describe the assessment requirements.
The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended to ensure consistency across the syllabus.
The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to better describe the evidence required.
Summative internal assessment 3 (IA3): Examination — extended response to stimulus
Minor amendments to Assessment objectives 1–5 have been made to better describe the assessment requirements.
The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended to ensure consistency across the syllabus.
The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to better describe the evidence required.
Summative external assessment (EA): Examination — combination response
The specifications and the summary of the external assessment have been amended to allow for flexibility in the external assessment.
Subject matter
Subject matter has been modified as follows:
- subject matter has been clarified to align with unit objectives
- ‘e.g.’ has replaced ‘such as’
- ‘data and economic information’ has been added
- Unit 1 Topic 2: Economic flows — ‘income model’ has replaced ‘model’
- Unit 3 Topic 1: The global economy — ‘and current international trade patterns’ and ‘and changing trade relationships’ have been added
- Unit 4 Topic 1: Macroeconomic objectives and theory — ‘composite’ has been removed; ‘and microeconomic policies’ has been added
- Unit 4 Topic 2: Economic management — ‘federal’ has been added in Sub-topic A; ‘microeconomic’ policies has replaced ‘supply-side’ policies in Sub-topic C.
Assessment guidance
Unit 1 and Unit 2 guidance has been amended to support schools, especially those that may decide to implement a concurrent delivery model.
Reporting standards
The A–E reporting standards have been amended to align with the changes to the instrument-specific marking guides.
The Economics General Senior Syllabus 2019 (v1.1) and associated resources are available in the QCAA Portal. The syllabus is also available on the QCAA website.
