Japanese General Senior Syllabus 2019: Syllabus amendment notice

Amendments have been made to the Chinese General Senior Syllabus 2019.

Subject matter

A statement has been added to ‘Characters’ in the mandatory language elements that stipulates the romaji phonetic system cannot be used for assessment responses.

Amendments have been made to the table of characters.

Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Examination — short response

The specifications of the assessment have been amended as follows:

  • the duration of the assessment is now 75–85 minutes plus 5 minutes planning
  • students are to respond to stimulus of 1200–1700 characters in total.

Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Examination — combination response

The specifications of the assessment have been amended as follows:

  • the duration of Session 1 is now 90–100 minutes plus 5 minutes planning
  • students are to respond to stimulus of 1200–1700 characters in total
  • the extended response is defined as a response of 300–400 characters.

Summative external assessment (EA): Examination — combination response

The examination requirements have been clarified to specify:

  • three to six unseen Japanese stimulus texts
  • at least one written and one audio/audiovisual text
  • stimulus texts need to be authentic and related to Unit 4 subject matter
  • the combined length of the stimulus texts is to be no more than 800–1200 characters in total.

In the Creating Japanese texts criterion, the specifications have been clarified to state: ‘Students respond in Japanese to unseen questions, stimulus, scenarios, problems and/or Japanese stimulus’.

The conditions have also been further defined. Short answer responses in English are now 300–400 words in total. The total response in Japanese is now 550–750 characters.

Glossary

Glossary definitions for tone and visual text have been amended to further clarify these terms.
