For success in work and life, young Queenslanders in the 21st century need to be innovators, entrepreneurs, lifelong learners, valued employees and responsible global citizens.
To keep pace with a transforming society and economy, senior schooling in Queensland is changing.
To strengthen our current system and enhance its fairness and reliability, we responded to the advice of education experts to develop a new world class curriculum and assessment system for all Queensland schools, starting with Year 11 students in 2019.
In most subjects, students will be assessed using three school-based assessments and one external assessment set and marked by the QCAA.
Stronger school-based assessment processes and common external assessment will benefit students and teachers.
Year 12 students graduating in 2020 will receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), replacing the current OP.
The ATAR is used around Australia.
The changes to senior schooling will give Queensland school leavers the 21st century skills they’ll need for the future.
