Portable Document Format (PDF)
To download, view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files, you will need to have Adobe® Reader installed. This can be downloaded free-of-charge from the Adobe® website.
Use the Adobe® Reader to:
- View a document by selecting the link text. The document will load into the reader.
- Save a document for later viewing by:
- right-clicking on the link text
- selecting Save Target As or Save Link As
- saving the file in your preferred location.
If you have a Mac® with a single button mouse:
- Save a document for later viewing by
- holding down the control key while you click your mouse on the link text
- selecting Save Link As or Download Link to Disk
- saving the file in your preferred location.
Some of our PDF files, such as Chinese curriculum materials, contain Asian fonts. If you receive error messages when opening these files, we suggest that you install the appropriate Asian font pack, free from the Adobe® website.
PDF forms
It is recommended that interactive PDF forms be saved to your preferred location then opened from your computer.
Microsoft® Office files
To download, view and print Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint files you will need either Microsoft® Office, or the free Microsoft® Office online viewers, installed on your computer.
You can download the free Microsoft® Office online viewers from the links below:
- Word (.dotx and .docx files)
- Excel (.xlsx and .csv files)
- PowerPoint (.pptx files)
To view Word, Excel or PowerPoint files:
- View a document by selecting the link text. The document will load into the reader.
To save Word, Excel or PowerPoint files:
- Save a document for later viewing by right-clicking your mouse on the link text and selecting Save Target As and saving the file in your preferred location.
If you have a Mac® with a single button mouse:

MP4 (MPEG-4 Video)
Video files for download are available in MP4 format. Most computers have pre-installed multimedia player software that can open MP4s. This software can also be downloaded from the website for your operating system (e.g. Windows or macOS). Our MP4 files have embedded caption tracks (CEA-608) which can be viewed by most players.
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3)
Audio files on our site are available in MP3 format. Most computers have pre-installed multimedia player software that can open MP3s. This software can also be downloaded from the website for your operating system (e.g. Windows or macOS).
WMV (Windows Media Video)
Windows Media Video files can be played in most multimedia players on the Microsoft® Windows operating system, including the pre-installed Media Player. If you do not use Windows, you may be able to obtain the appropriate software by visiting the website for your operating system.
Zip files
We use zip files (.zip) to package together multiple files and decrease the file size for downloading. To open a zip file, you will need a compression utility such as 7-Zip. Many operating systems come with one pre-installed.
